Instead of Panacea
Stop renting Panacea. Own your vet practice system.
Enterprise DNA builds a version shaped around how your clinic books, treats and bills, brings your Panacea records over, and keeps it running for you. The system and every record in it belong to the practice.
Panacea charges NZ$99 a month for one vet and one nurse, or NZ$299 per clinic per month for unlimited users, with SMS reminders at 15c each and a fixed NZ$1,500 to migrate your data in.

Where the money goes
Low monthly pricing, and the record still lives on someone else's servers
Unlimited users costs NZ$299 per clinic per month, which is NZ$3,588 a year that stops the day you stop paying. The small plan is NZ$99 a month for one vet and one nurse. Every reminder text is 15c on top.
NZ$3,588 a year, every year
At NZ$299 a month for unlimited users, the software is still a bill in year five, and the clinic owns no more of it.
A second vet changes the plan
The NZ$99 plan covers one vet and one nurse. Grow past that and the price goes up, with unlimited users published at NZ$299.
Reminders charged by the text
Automated SMS reminders are 15c a message. The busier your recall list, the bigger that line gets.
Paying to move in
Managed migration from your old system is a fixed NZ$1,500. Worth weighing before you decide where your history goes next.
IT support as a paid extra
Panacea Assist, the remote IT support service, is optional and paid for separately.
Records you rent access to
Your clients, patients and history live on Panacea's servers. The help site does not document a self-serve full export, so ask for one before you need it.
What you get instead
A practice record the clinic keeps, rules included
Yours outright
Own the system, not a login to it
The records sit in a database the practice controls. Nothing about the clinic depends on a subscription staying paid.
- check No monthly software fee for the free version, and no user limit
- check Every vet, nurse and receptionist works in the same records
- check Take a copy of the whole database whenever you like, in a format any tool reads
- check Open source under the MIT licence
Recalls
A recall list that does the chasing
Vaccination recalls come straight from what was charged, and the overdue list tells the front desk who to ring first.
- check Patients overdue with nothing booked come first, with the owner's phone number
- check Reminder letters draft in your clinic's name, ready for a person to send
- check Patients who have quietly stopped coming are ranked by what they have spent
- check The Monday review is written for you from the week's numbers
Clinical rules
Inspection-ready by the way it works
The checks the Veterinary Council and the drug regulations care about are part of every consult, not a report someone remembers to run.
- check No booking for a vet whose practising certificate has expired
- check Notes before a consult closes, and consent on file for every surgery or dental
- check Controlled drugs tracked in an append-only register that reconciles with the shelf
- check Every dog's microchip checked, with a list of the ones nobody recorded
Made to fit
Change it by saying what you want
Your protocols, your price list and your paperwork, described in plain English and built in.
- check Add a boarding calendar, a new field on the patient card or a new rule
- check Vaccination certificates and statements printed with your logo and colours
- check Bring your Panacea clients, patients, reminders and history across
- check A web front end or online booking, if your clinic wants one, built by Enterprise DNA

Switching
How to switch from Panacea
Moving off Panacea comes down to getting an export from their support team, loading it into the new database with a check first, seeing what that check turns up, and running both systems for a while before you cancel.
- 1
Ask Panacea for your export
Panacea does not offer a self-serve full export on its help site, so email support and ask for your clients, patients, reminders, history and products before you give notice. Panacea has no long-term commitment, so there is no need to rush the cancellation until the export is actually in your hands and you have looked through it.
- 2
Test the load before you commit
Loading the export happens in two passes. The first pass checks the file and tells you what it sees, without changing anything. Read that check carefully, look for anything obviously wrong or missing, and only then load the file for real. If a warning is unclear, ask before you load, or have Enterprise DNA do the load for you.
- 3
Check what the import flags
The load itself is the first proper audit of your data. Expect it to surface things nobody had noticed: a patient with no owner in the export, a missing microchip number, a gap in someone's history. Go through the list before you rely on the new record for anything, and fix what needs fixing at the source if you can.
- 4
Run both side by side briefly
Keep Panacea running for a short stretch while you work in the new system day to day. Book real appointments, log real consults, check the numbers match what Panacea would have shown you. This is where you catch anything the export or the load missed, while you still have the old system open to compare against.
- 5
Cancel Panacea when you're satisfied
Panacea can be cancelled at any time, so there is no contract to work around. Once you have confirmed the records loaded correctly and the clinic has run comfortably on the new system for a while, cancel the Panacea subscription and stop paying for two systems at once.
Where the real effort goes
The real work is rarely the export itself. It is deciding how your own fields and house rules should carry across, and how much history is worth bringing forward versus leaving behind in an archive. Those are judgment calls specific to your clinic. If Enterprise DNA runs the installed version for you, this is the part they sit down and work through with you directly.

Questions
Instead of Panacea, answered
Panacea is already cheap. Why switch? expand_more
If the monthly price is the only thing that matters, Panacea is hard to beat, and we will say so. Clinics switch for control: the record lives in a database the practice owns, there is no per-text charge from us, and every change is a sentence you type instead of a feature you wait for.
How do we get our records out of Panacea? expand_more
We could not find a self-serve full export in Panacea's help site. Ask Panacea support for an export of your clients, patients, reminders, history and products before you give notice. Panacea has no long-term commitment, so you can cancel once the export is in hand.
Do we lose online booking? expand_more
The free version has no client-facing booking page. When Enterprise DNA builds your version, online booking can be added and connected to the same records.
Can it send our SMS reminders? expand_more
The free version drafts reminders and never sends on its own, so a person stays in control. Your custom version can send through the SMS provider of your choice, at that provider's rates.
What if we want to change something later? expand_more
Describe it in plain English: a new field, a new rule, a new document. In the free version Claude Code makes the change. If Enterprise DNA runs it for you, we make the change as part of the retainer.
Keep your clinic's record in the clinic
30 minutes with Sam. We look at what Panacea costs you with texts included, what your team relies on, and what your own version would look like. If it is a fit, we build it and bring your records over. If not, the free version is yours to keep.
