Start with your renewal quote
What does your charity need from the subscription?
Raiser's Edge NXT combines donor management with a wider fundraising platform. Its public pricing page asks for your details, so compare your quote with the parts your team actually uses.
An organisation-specific price
There is no public subscription amount on the pricing page. Use the quote and renewal terms your charity has received.
Donor records and relationships
Names, giving history and connections are central to the product. Those records are also the starting point for your own system.
Gifts and fundraising promises
Gift management and pledges sit alongside payment services. Separate the records you need to own from the payment service you choose to keep.
Outreach and stewardship
The platform offers donor follow-up and communication preferences. Compare that with the weekly calls and acknowledgements your team actually makes.
Campaign reporting
Campaign and fund reporting helps explain fundraising results. Your own version can combine those totals with your charity’s specific follow-up rules.
The wider platform
Memberships, events and planned giving expand the scope. Identify which of these your charity uses before deciding what your own version needs.
Your fundraising work, your rules
A donor system shaped around the next conversation
Stewardship
Know who needs attention this week
Put the next action, its owner and the donor’s contact preference together. Staff can see the reason to act and the reason to hold back.
- check Overdue donor actions and the coming week’s calls
- check A named owner and due date for each conversation
- check Blocked and unknown contact permissions shown alongside the work
- check Thank-you drafts held back for suppressed donors
Pledges
Separate promises from received money
See what remains on each pledge after recorded payments. Keep campaign progress honest by showing unpaid promises separately.
- check Remaining pledge value after partial gifts
- check Overdue promises and those due in the coming month
- check Checks against recording more than a pledge’s remaining balance
- check Campaign cash, unpaid pledges and goal gaps shown separately
Trustee review
Explain the figures behind the appeal
Give trustees a repeatable view of fundraising records, with clear currency and purpose. Change the analysis when your charity’s questions change.
- check Appeal receipts less recorded appeal costs
- check Cash received for each restricted purpose
- check Separate Australian and New Zealand currency totals
- check Combine overdue actions, donor history and permission in your own review
Records you own
Bring the donor history with you
Map supported exports, check the counts and keep the original archive. Your rules and review documents stay with your charity.

Questions your own version answers today
These answers run on the fictional demo records. Raiser's Edge also supports configurable queries; the difference here is owning the records and the rules you change.
Switching
How to switch from Raiser's Edge NXT
The move is a records export from Raiser's Edge NXT, a mapped import you preview before applying, and a period running both systems side by side until the totals reconcile.
- 1
Export the records you need
Pull your donor, gift, pledge, campaign, appeal, fund and relationship records out of Raiser's Edge NXT using whatever export the account allows, usually CSV or Excel. Raiser's Edge NXT exports are configurable, so check with Raiser's Edge NXT on the exact fields and formats available to your account before you start. Get this export complete first, since it is the raw material everything else is built from.
- 2
Load it as a test run first
Fundraising for Claude Code takes a prepared CSV bundle mapped to your exported records. Run the import as a preview first, without applying anything, so nothing is written to your database yet. This step exists so you can see what would happen and catch mapping problems on paper, before any donor record is actually touched.
- 3
Check what the import flags
The preview reconciles counts and totals by currency and type before anything applies. Look closely at what it flags: mismatched totals, records it cannot map, or source rows that have changed and will not simply overwrite. Sort these out before you apply anything. If any single row fails, the whole import rolls back, so you never end up with a partial load.
- 4
Run both systems side by side
Keep Raiser's Edge NXT running for a stretch while your team works from the new database day to day, checking that figures match and that ordinary fundraising work, pledge follow-ups, thank-you tracking, campaign totals, behaves as expected. Running the same import bundle again does not duplicate records, so you can re-check and re-run as many times as you need before committing fully.
- 5
Switch off Raiser's Edge NXT
Once totals reconcile and the team is comfortable working from the new database without falling back, cancel or let the Raiser's Edge NXT subscription lapse. Confirm first that anything needing a separately scoped mapping or archive, gift splits, soft credits, attachments, signed receipts, has already been handled, since these do not come across in the standard import.
Where the real effort goes
The real work is not the export, it is mapping your own fields, funds, campaigns and rules onto the new database, and deciding how much history you actually bring across versus archive separately, things like gift splits, soft credits, attachments and signed receipts. Enterprise DNA does this mapping and reconciliation work for you when you have them install and run it.

Questions
Instead of Raiser's Edge NXT, answered
How do we compare this with our Raiser’s Edge renewal? expand_more
Bring the actual quote and the workflows your charity uses. Blackbaud requests organisation-specific pricing on its public page. We scope your own version against those needs, with a setup fee then a retainer for our work. The open-source base is free; hosting and usage have their own costs.
Will our donor history and pledges come across? expand_more
The free version imports mapped donor, campaign, fund, appeal, pledge, gift, action and relationship exports. Raiser’s Edge exports are configurable, so we map the headings and reconcile the totals. Gift splits, soft credits, attachments and original signed receipts need a separately agreed migration or retained archive. Repeating the same supported import does not duplicate records.
Can we keep online donations and our payment provider? expand_more
Yes. The fundraising records can sit in your own database while donations continue through your chosen provider. We scope the connection to that provider in your custom installation, along with any donor forms, phone access or membership work you need.
Does it produce valid NZ or Australian tax receipts automatically? expand_more
It prepares draft receipt worksheets and flags missing recorded details. An authorised person verifies the charity’s eligibility, donor details and required wording before signing and issuing the final receipt. The free version does not issue receipts or decide a donor’s tax position. Non-cash gifts and benefits need specialist review.
Can our team change it without starting again? expand_more
Yes. Your fields, restrictions, donor stages and review documents can change with the charity. The free version includes weekly workflows and read-only review pages. We build the shared access, screens and connections your team needs as part of your version.
